Project HOPE

In partnership with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, and the City of Detroit Planning Commission, Goodwill provides vocational services to meet the specific needs of persons infected with the HIV virus. Through Project HOPE individuals are assisted to find job placement opportunities, examine job training options, explore careers, find out how to locate jobs, create and implement a career plan, develop a professional looking resume, develop interviewing techniques, and become linked with support services needed to obtain and maintain employment. Individuals also receive long-term case management services to address any unforeseen personal, medical or vocational issues that might threaten the person’s ability to maintain employment.

The Power of Work (POW) Support Group was developed as an offshoot of Project HOPE to address the vocational needs of persons with HIV/AIDS who are working or planning to return to the work force. The POW Support Group is member driven and addresses the issues members face related to working. Meetings consist of candid discussions on personal issues, and presentations from speakers on topics such as medication, stress, personal goal development and relationships.
