Hospitality & Retail Career Training

The Detroit Workforce Development Department in partnership with Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit, Wayne County Community College District, CVS Caremark pharmacy and the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute presents the Hospitality/Retail Career Center for individuals seeking careers in hospitality, retail and lodging.

The Hospitality/Retail Career Center training is based on the Skills, Tasks, and Results Training (START) curriculum developed by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute. The training is a 7 week course taught by Wayne County Community College instructors, and students attend class Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm.

Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate of course completion from the American Hotel and Lodging Association. Students who pass the final exam with a 90% or above receive an honors certificate. Additional credentials are earned by completing 30 to 90 days of employment or internship in a designated position.

Each student is assigned a Career Coach who develops job leads in hospitality and retail and places students in industry-related employment or internships that serve as a springboard to their career of choice.
